Fancy learning a traditional skill, getting outdoors and helping us build something that will be part of Green Shoots for years to come?
This September and October, we’re bringing Dry Stone Walling to Green Shoots Aberdalgie for the first time, with a series of free, hands-on day courses delivered by experienced trainers from the East of Scotland Branch of the Dry Stone Walling Association.
And you don’t need to know one end of a walling stone from the other to take part!
Come and have a go
Dry stone walling is one of Scotland’s great traditional rural skills, creating strong and beautiful walls using carefully selected and positioned stone without mortar.
These practical day courses are a chance to get stuck in, learn the basic techniques from experienced wallers and put those skills into practice here at Green Shoots.
No previous experience is needed. Just come prepared to learn something new and get your hands dirty.
Choose your day
Courses will take place on:
Saturday 26 September
Sunday 27 September
Friday 2 October
Saturday 3 October
Sunday 4 October
Friday 9 October
You can come along for one of the days, so there’s no need to commit to the whole programme.
And the best bit? It’s free.
Places are free for Green Shoots members, their family and friends.
Green Shoots membership costs just £10 a year for an individual or £15 for a family and gives local residents free or discounted access to activities and use of the building and grounds at Aberdalgie, including garden hires, heritage events and talks, traditional skills and crafts courses, and more.
Your membership helps someone else too
The money we receive from Green Shoots membership doesn’t simply pay for member activities. Membership income helps us provide Green Shoots facilities and opportunities for groups who might otherwise face barriers to accessing them.
That includes our work with young people, adult learners and organisations supporting people with additional needs, as well as the learning, skills, outdoor and wellbeing opportunities we provide with our community partners.
So, while your membership gives you access to benefits here at Green Shoots, your £10 or £15 also helps us make the site and what happens here available to others.
It’s a small membership fee that helps us do a lot more.
Fancy building a bit of Green Shoots history?
Places are limited, so if you’d like to join us, get in touch and tell us which date or dates would suit you.
Bring your enthusiasm. We’ll provide the stones!
